MyEssayFeedback is built on PAIRR — Peer review, AI feedback, Interactive prompts, and Reflection — a research-backed writing method from UC Davis. An optional human reader (a co-op partner, sibling, or parent) reviews the draft first; the AI then gives targeted feedback on the aspects of writing you choose; your child works through interactive prompts that ask them to weigh the feedback and ask follow-up questions; and finally they reflect on what they'll change and why, building the metacognitive habits that make writers improve over time.
1. Set up a school year, add a writing assignment, and choose a rubric — the PAIRR rubric, your own, or ours — and a feedback style (Guided Questions or Direct Suggestions). Takes about two minutes.
2. Optional: a human reads the draft first — a co-op partner, sibling, or parent.

Yes. Essays are processed through Microsoft Azure AI and are never used to train AI models — not ours, not Microsoft's, not anyone else's. We collect only what's needed to provide the service — no ads, no data selling — and everything is encrypted in transit and at rest. As the parent, you also see every essay and every piece of feedback your child receives.
It's built to work alongside you, not replace you. The AI handles the line-by-line and structural feedback so you're not grading every draft yourself, but you still choose the rubric and what the feedback focuses on, and you can see every essay, every piece of AI feedback, and your child's reflections in your dashboard. Your child is also prompted to critically evaluate the AI's feedback rather than accept it automatically, so the tool builds their judgment instead of replacing yours.
